Parents
At Montessori Seeds of Education, collaboration with families is the nucleus of our mission and vision. At the core (pun intended), our children are only as successful as the level of cooperation and collaboration between school and home. It is the electric charge that is needed to make the rest of the parts successfully circle around in their orbit. There are three main objectives to fulfill in order to achieve an authentic Montessori experience with families:
- The parents must know what is happening in the classroom.
- The parents must know how to support their child’s learning at home.
- The child must know that both their family and MSOE are on the same page.
How to Get Involved
Review Your Child’s Portfolio
Parents of Montessori Seeds of Education get a firsthand look and some insight into their child’s day. They can access their child’s personal portfolio at their convenience through our online record keeping program (Transparent Classroom). The portfolios include pictures, information and comments about their children’s work.
Our goal with this unique program is to give parents information and peace of mind. Our goal is to also use this to inspire parents to engage their child with the work that they are doing, and hopefully, parents will think of activities to do with their family relating to their child’s work or some other educational interest. Furthermore, this program affords parents peace of mind on those days when their child can’t or does not want to communicate what they did in the classroom that day. Just like when there are days that adults do not feel like sharing about their day at work.

Incorporate Montessori in Your Home and Family Life
MSOE Parents are provided reading material and ideas on a regular basis for incorporating Montessori into your home and family life, including family activities, organization ideas, and best practices. This gives parents the opportunity to reinforce the lessons of their child’s school days, creating a harmonious world for the child and the family. This consistency allows students to more easily align with their own inner purpose at their given stage of development.

Attend School Events
MSOE offers multiple opportunities for families to learn more about Montessori. These include school led book clubs and parent education nights throughout the school year. At these events, parents gain insights into the Montessori environment and how to see their child through the mind of a trained Montessori teacher.

Volunteer
Parent participation is a vital aid for enriching the education of children. Everyone has a talent or skill that they can share. Additionally, parents know other adults who can share their skills and talents. Parents might even have ideas for places where children can go during the school day and expand on a given interest. When we say “volunteer,” we mean of yourself, your ideas, your friends, or places that you may know. This is a dynamic way to enhance, not only your child’s education, but their peers as well. We encourage parents to share areas of expertise, lessons, and special customs with our students, providing real world, hands-on experiences to enhance their authentic Montessori experience. Additionally, MSOE has multiple opportunities for parents to become involved in planning or chaperoning trips or activities, and assisting the classroom directors with specific lessons.

Parent Association Council (PAC)
All parents, legal guardians or caregivers of enrolled students are members of the Parent Association Council (PAC), and you are encouraged to participate throughout the school year. The purpose and goals of the PAC are to support additional activities for the students, the staff, and the facilities. It is a way to bond with other families. Additionally, the P.A.C. serves as a formal example of support, collaboration, and cooperation with the school. Integration of families, not exclusion, one of the cornerstones of MSOE. The main goal is to bridge the gap between home and school.
